CBS Sets ‘The Briefcase’ Reality Series From ‘The Biggest Loser’ Creator

CBS has set The Briefcase, a new reality series for summer from The Biggest Loser creator/executive producer Dave Broome. The show, which will premiere May 27 and air in Survivor‘s Wednesday 8 PM time period, features a social experiment element. In each episode, two hard-working American families experiencing financial setbacks are presented by the show’s producers with a briefcase containing $101,000 and a potentially life-altering decision: they can keep all of the money for themselves, or give all or part of it to another family in need.

They have 72 hours to learn details about each other’s challenging circumstances and make the weighty decision. What they don’t know is that the family with whom they are considering sharing this financial windfall received an identical briefcase with the same instructions.

Each episode culminates with the reveal in the final act and a half.

Broome called The Briefcase an example of a “2.0 version unscripted reality show.” “It deals with values in a big, loud way,” he said. “Families are tested on what really matters in life.”

Each episode ends with an epilogue about “how much the experience and the money have changed the families’ lives,” Broome said.

The Briefcase is produced by 25/7 Productions and distributed by Sony Pictures Television where Broome is under an overall deal. Broome executive produces with Faye Stapleton.

Broome and Sony TV also recently received a series order from NBC for S.T.R.O.N.G. (Start To Realize Our Natural Greatness), a fitness competition reality show executive produced by Sylverster Stallone.
