Norwegian series of the same name (Side om Side). Veteran comedy writer-producer Donick Cary (Parks and Recreation, New Girl) will write the adaptation, which is being produced by CBS TV Studios. Side by Side centers on a young couple that buys their dream home and gets caught between two feuding families.

Created by Terje Solli, the original series premiered on Norway’s NRK1 in 2013. It has aired two seasons, with a third one in the works. Here is a trailer with English subtitles:

Cary is executive producing the U.S. version with Jimmy Fox, Layla Smith and Eli Holzman of Objective Productions/All 3 Media as well as Christina Rezk Resar, Sigmund Falch and the original series’ director Marit Åslein.

Noel Hedges of DRG Entertainment, which controls the rights to the Norwegian format, helped broker the deal.

For WME-repped Cary, Side by Side stems from a two-year overall deal he signed with CBS TV Studios in May. In the first year of the deal, he is being loaned out to HBO comedy Silicon Valley, where he is doing a stint as consulting producer, while developing for CBS Studios.

Objective/All3Media is repped by ICM Partners and Hansen Jacobson.
