Caroline Rhea Lists Hollywood Hills Triplex

SELLER: Caroline Rhea
LOCATION: Los Angeles, Calif.
PRICE: $1.795 million
SIZE: 3 units, 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (total)

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: It was dear old celebrity real estate snitch Lucy Spillerguts who let us know that seasoned standup star and television actress Caroline Rhea put a multi-unit property in the foothills between Hollywood and West Hollywood up for sale at $1.795 million. The Canadian-born and bred comedienne — best known perhaps as one of the witchy aunties on the 1990s and early aughts sitcom “Sabrina The Teenage Witch” and currently the voice for several characters on the long-running animated series “Phineas and Ferb” as well as an occasional substitute co-host on the estrogen-fueled morning chatfest “The View” — purchased the Mediterranean Revival-style complex, so close to the Hollywood Bowl it might as well be in the parking lot, in April 2006 for $1.65 million.

Online marketing materials show the positively puny, 0.09 acre parcel manages to pack in two comfortably-sized two-bedroom and one-bathroom units plus a third, studio style apartment that together, per digital marketing materials, bring in a monthly rent roll of $7,200. The smaller of the two bedroom units, currently rented at $2,600 per month per listing details, sits atop four valuable covered parking spaces in a parking challenged ‘hood and features hardwood floors, a living room with shallow barrel-vaulted ceiling, a step-up formal dining room/den with a trio of arched windows, and a functional but hardly impressive kitchen with laundry porch and cozy breakfast nook. The studio apartment, perched like a treehouse above the smaller two-bedroom unit, goes for $1,800 per month per listing details, and features a bay window, oatmeal-colored wall-to-wall carpeting, an updated if perfectly ordinary kitchen with laundry facilities and a petite dining space with enviable over-the-rooftops city view. The largest unit, freestanding with hardwood floors, coved ceilings and monthly rent of $2,800, according to marketing materials, sits high and privately well above the street with a city-view entry terrace, an oversized foyer in which the current tenant installed — we kind y’all not — a depressingly tawdry stripper pole, a roomy living room with fireplace, formal dining room with built-in hutch and curved wall of awning-shaded windows, and a rental-grade kitchen with black and white tile countertops and downright dizzying black and white checkerboard back splash.

We’re just going to assume without any direct knowledge that the veteran funny lady, who generally keeps it pretty gosh darn clean in her act, maintains an outpost in Canada, and our research reveals she owns a 1,681-square-foot condo-apartment in a gorgeous if not well-known full-service Beaux Arts building in the heart of New York City’s Upper West Side that she picked up in September 2002 for $915,000.
