‘Carmichael Show’ Ratings Up Strong In Week 2, ‘Celebrity Wife Swap’ Finale Down From 2014, ‘MasterChef’ Steady

Looks like NBC’s second comedy experiment of the summer has paid off very nicely for the net. In its second week, The Carmichael Show saw an 18% jump among adults 18-49 for its 9 PM (1.3/4) show and an impressive 22% rise in the demo for its 9:30 PM (1.1/4) show. Not only does that almost exactly flip how Mr. Robinson did for NBC in the decline of its Week 2, but also the 9 PM result is the best any network summer comedy has done in its second week since CBS’ Creature Comforts drew a 1.4 rating back on June 11, 2007. NBC is also flying the victory flag with the 4.8 million viewership for the 9 PM Carmichael Show last night hitting the best summer comedy Week 2 total audience since Method And Red pulled in 6.26 million on June 23, 2004.

With America’s Got Talent (1.7/7) bopping up 6% among the 18-49s from its August 26 show and the penultimate episode of Last Comic Standing (1.1/4) even with last week, NBC took the night with a 1.3/4 rating and 5.890 million viewers. CBS and Fox were a close second with a 1.2/4 rating while the latter was in the No. 2 spot viewership-wise with 5.415 million watching.

Overall, CBS took a bit of a hit on Wednesday with Big Brother (2.0/8) dipping 5% from last week and Extant falling 13%. Still, BB was once again the top-rated show of the night and the second most watched with its 6.53 million behind AGT’s 9.07 million.

It was the opposite on Fox with MasterChef (1.5/6) rising 7% from last week and Home Free (1.0/2) building 25% over the double digit decline of its August 26 show.

For ABC’s sole original of the night there were mixed results. While the Season 4 finale of Celebrity Wife Swap (0.8/9) rose 14% from its August 26 show, the series was down 27% from last year’s season ender. Having said that, CWS Season 3 finale was held over a month earlier last year, airing on July 29, 2014 – so the direct finale-to-finale comparison wanes a bit. What is clear is that CWS was tied with a Criminal Minds encore in the 10 PM time slot and came well behind slot winner Last Man Standing.

The CW saw big demo falls for America’s Next Top Model (0.4/2) and A Wicked Offer (0.2/1) with the latter sliding 20% to match a season low in early numbers and the latter going down a hard 33% to hit a low.
