Carla Gugino To Star In Cameron Crowe’s Showtime Pilot ‘Roadies’, Replacing Christina Hendricks

Carla Gugino (San Andreas) is set to star in Showtime’s reworked hourlong comedy pilot Roadies, from Cameron Crowe and J.J. Abrams. It was a result of a major recasting on the project, which follows the day-to-day life of a successful rock tour as seen through the eyes of music’s unsung heroes – the crew members who get the show on the road. Gugino will play the band’s production manager Shelli – a world-class multi-tasker, passionate music fan, and tireless work partner to the band’s tour manager (Luke Wilson). Their unique personal and professional relationship is forever crashing and colliding as they guide the daily events of the band and crew of roadies.

In the original pilot, the role of Shelli was played by Christina Hendricks. The character has since been reconceived by series creator Crowe. He did some rewrites of the pilot, which will now undergo reshoots with Gugino. The project is expected to go to series.

Co-starring opposite Wilson and Gugino are Imogen Poots, Rafe Spall, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Peter Cambor and Colson Baker a.k.a. Machine Gun Kelly.

Crowe is the pilot’s writer, director and executive producer. Winnie Holzman executive produces and serves as showrunner, along with J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk. Kathy Lingg is co-executive producer. Roadies is produced by Bad Robot Productions, Vinyl Films and Dooley & Company Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Gugino, who recently co-starred on Fox event series Wayward Pines and is recurring on HBO comedy The Brink, is repped by CAA and Untitled.

Hendricks appears on Comedy Central’s Another Period and will be seen on Sundance Channel’s Hap and Leonard.
