Carey Mulligan May Portray Hillary Clinton in Indie Drama
Carey Mulligan has emerged as the most likely candidate to portray a young Hillary Clinton in the indie drama “Rodham.”
Mulligan, who portrays Daisy Buchanan in “The Great Gatsby,” has not signed on for the role but is expected to meet shortly with director James Ponsoldt (“The Spectacular Now”). News was first reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
The “Rodham” script by Young Il Kim — selected fourth on last year’s Black List after “Draft Day,” “A Country of Strangers” and “Seuss” — is set during the height of the Watergate scandal when Rodham was the youngest lawyer chosen for the House Judiciary Committee to Impeach Nixon. She soon found herself forced to choose between a path to the White House and her unresolved feelings for Bill Clinton, her former boyfriend who was teaching law in Arkansas.
Project is being produced by Richard Arlook of the Arlook Group and Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey at Temple Hill Entertainment.
Mulligan also starred in “Shame” and “Drive.” She will next appear in the Joel and Ethan Coen’s “Inside Llewyn Davis.”
Mulligan recently signed with WME.
