TORONTO – Canadian distributor Mongrel Media continued its spending ways in Cannes by picking up another four titles for Canada, including the competition titles Jimmy P., Like Father, Like Son and Young & Beautiful.

Hussain Amarshi’s indie outfit also acquired the Canadian rights for Bastards (Les salauds), which screened in the Un Certain Regard sidebar.

The latest three Cannes competition titles picked up by Mongrel include Japanese writer/director Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Like Father, Like Son, about a successful businessman who finds out that his biological son was switched with another child after birth.

Mongrel also acquired the Benicio Del Toro and Mathieu Amalric-starrer Jimmy P., an English-language drama from French director Arnaud Desplechin and French filmmaker François Ozon’s  Young & Beautiful (Jeune & Joie) , a coming-of-age portrait of a 17-year-old French girl over four seasons and four songs.

Also in the Mongrel shopping bag for the Canadian market is French director Claire Denis’ Bastards, which stars Vincent Lindon and is based on a script by Denis and Jean-Pole Fargeau.

Earlier in Cannes, Mongrel acquired the Canadian rights to the Cannes competition films like Ethan and Joel CoensInside Llewyn Davis, Paolo Sorrentino’s La Grande Bellezza (The Great Beauty) and Abdellatif Kechiche’s La vie d’Adèle – Chapitre 1 & 2 (Blue is the Warmest Colour).
