Canadian TV Documentary Begins Shooting at India's Actor Prepares School

NEW DELHI – The Actor Prepares school established by acclaimed Bollywood actor Anupam Kher (Silver Linings Playbook) has been included in a Canadian documentary about unique global schools. TV5 Quebec Canada's Schools Like No Others profiles a selection of unique institutions globally, including a Kung Fu school in China, a bullfighting school in Spain, an etiquette school in Switzerland, a horse racing school in Britain, a school for autistic children in the U.S., a perfumery school and schools for high-potential children in France, among others.

The documentary is produced by Eureka Productions whose crew is currently in Mumbai shooting at the Actor Prepares school. The institution was established eight years ago by Kher, 58, a graduate of India's prestigious National School of Drama, where he is also a former chairperson. In his three decade career in Indian cinema, Kher has appeared in nearly 470 films which include his breakout film Saaransh (1984) to international projects including Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Ang Lee's Lust, Caution (2007) and Woody Allen's You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger (2010). Kher is also among the ensemble cast of the Indian version of Fox's 24 -- starring Bollywood star Anil Kapoor (Slumdog Millionaire) in the lead -- which airs on Hindi entertainment channel Colors.

“We have designed a world class practical-oriented syllabus which is able to deliver on our belief that acting can be taught, learnt and perfected,” said Kher. “Our approach is not just to teach acting as a skill, we impart a holistic approach to acting as a way of life, and that is how we bring out the actor in you.”

“Assisting the preparation of emerging Bollywood talent is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and the entire team is very excited about it,” said the documentary's director Yvonne Defour at Eureka Productions. “We feel really privileged to come to Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares to learn more about this fascinating and unique culture and to spread it through Canada and hopefully many other countries. ”

Anupam Kher's Actor Prepares -- which also has a U.K. branch -- has seen guest speakers such as directors Danny Boyle, Ang Lee and Shekhar Kapur.
