Busan's Asian Cinema Fund Calls for Submissions
SEOUL – The Asian Cinema Fund (ACF), the Busan International Film Festival's flagship financing initiative for emerging filmmakers, has opened for 2014 submissions. China's Forestt Studio is joining the South Korean program this year for the purpose of supporting Chinese projects.
There are three types of funds available to filmmakers, depending on the stage of project development. Collectively, the cash rewards total $25,000.
The Scrip Development Fund ($10,00) is available for fiction feature scripts, including works in progress. The Asian Network of Documentary (AND) Fund will reward cash grants of $10,000 and $5,000. Both are accepting pitches until May 10.
The deadline for the Post-Production Fund is April 20. Project proposals must be fiction features shot in HD digital format. The winner will gain access to various post-production services at studios in Korea or China.
If a Chinese project is selected Forestt Studio, a Chinese post-production company, will provide part of the support, while Korea's Korean Film Council (KOFIC), CJ Powercast, Digital Studio2L, Stareast Digital Lab, Studio SH and Wavelab STD will provide DI, sound mixing and DCP.
The documentary fund is supported by Youngsan University, Dongseo University, Pusan National University, Busan Bank, BIFF Mecenat and Supporters of BIFF.
Since its inception ACF has financed 94 features and 131 documentaries.
The 19th Busan Film Festival will open Oct. 2-11 while the Asian Film Market and Asian Project Market will be held Oct. 5-8.
