Box Office: ‘Inside Out’ Outshines ‘Magic Mike,’ ‘Terminator’ Sequels

“Inside Out” is leading the holiday weekend box office, pacing firmly ahead of new releases “Terminator Genisys” and “Magic Mike XXL.”

The Disney-Pixar animated pic pulled in $12.5 million on Friday, bringing its cumulative haul to $228 million Stateside in its third week of competition. Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader voice the emotions of an 11-year-old girl in the family film, which is playing in 4,158 locations.

Close behind is another hefty holdover: “Jurassic World.” The dinosaur actioner, starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, logged $11.8 million in Friday grosses across 3,737 screens. It will probably add another $15 million-$20 million to its cumulative gross before the weekend is over, pushing the Universal release farther past its already-crossed $500 million mark.

“Terminator Genisys” managed $10.6 million in Friday receipts on 3,758 screens, good for third place. The fourth installment in the dystopian robot series, which stars Emilia Clarke and Arnold Schwarzenegger, is expected to finish at $43 million for the five-day weekend, slightly lower than early estimates had pegged it.

Channing Tatum and his cohort of strippers finished at No. 4, with “Magic Mike XXL” generating $6.2 million on Friday. With a budget of just $14.8 million, the saucy dance pic will still generate a hefty profit for Warner Bros, even if it’s unlikely that it will hit the forecasted $45 million-plus in the five-day weekend. Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer also star in the sequel to the 2013 sleeper hit.
