Box Office: ’2 Guns’ Opens With $1.28 Million

Universal’s “2 Guns” opened with $1.28 million from late-night Thursday shows as the Mark Wahlberg-Denzel Washington actioner faces off against kidpic “The Smurfs 2.”

Tracking projects that the film will hit around $30 million for the weekend, as the actioner expands into 3,023 theaters.

Sony’s “Smurfs” sequel, which features Hank Azaria, Neil Patrick Harris and Katy Perry, opened Wednesday with $5.2 million at 3,866 and is expected to cume around $35 million by Sunday.

“2 Guns” also stars Paula Patton, Bill Paxton, Fred Ward, James Marsden and Edward James Olmos. It also allowed for Wahlberg to reteam with his “Contraband” director, Baltasar Kormakur.

Emmett Furla financed the $61 million project.
