New ‘Black Mass’ Trailer: Parenting Advice From Whitey Bulger

We won’t know until September if Black Mass, the long-overdue biopic about notorious Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger, is going to be any good, but the trailers, at least, are riveting. The newest features Johnny Depp’s spectacularly creepy take on Bulger, seen here dispensing life advice to a 6-year-old, strolling around his neighborhood, and of course straight up killing people willy nilly.

Black Mass spans the 1970s, 80s, and early 90s, depicting how Bulger, a low-level crook who became an FBI informant, corrupted his handlers and with their help created a criminal empire that ruled over Boston for a decade. Black Mass also stars Kevin Bacon, Benedict Cumerbatch, Joel Edgerton, Jesse Plemons and Sienna Miller. Directed by Crazy Heart‘s Scott Cooper from a script by Mark Mallouk and Jez Butterworth, it hits theaters September 18.
