Batman V Superman: Michael Shannon Backtracks On General Zod Rumours

General Zod almost broke the internet recently with details of his ‘Batman V Superman’ appearance… but it looks as though actor Michael Shannon has had a change of heart.

During an interview with The Daily Beast, the 41-year-old Superman villain tried to stamp out those rumours… but it might be a bit late for that.

“I wasn’t there,” he said about his appearance in ‘Batman V Superman’. “It’s a really awkward situation - I’m in the trailer for a movie that I didn’t work on.”

Of course, his earlier comments came as a huge bombshell after he revealed some tantalizing details about his ‘Batman V Superman’ role… particularly the weird addition of flippers for poor-old General Zod.

“I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands,” he told Vulture. And that prompted many to assume that his had something to do with Lex Luthor and the rumours that he’s been experimenting on General Zod’s body.

Maybe even hinting that he will transform into iconic villain, Doomsday.

But now Shannon claims that he made that story up…

“Somebody was asking me about this in New York and I made up some ridiculous bullshit answer about how my character Zod has flippers,” he said. “And this went viral on the internet or something and people have been asking me about that. That is so obviously a complete bullshit story, right? But people took it seriously.”

Hmmm. Clearly, the folks at Warner Bros. have had a word with Shannon about his previous comments… but whether or not they’re true remain a bit of a mystery.

“Maybe they should add it, I don’t know! Maybe in Part 3, Doomsday will have flipper hands. I mean, look—nothing would make me happier than to work with Zack [Snyder] again, he’s hysterical and he’s a lot of fun to work with.”

Either way, it looks as though he’s continuing to dig himself a hole as he tries to explain his role in the upcoming film.

“The thing about the whole Krypton universe, apparently, is that even when you destroy them, there are ghosts,” he explained. “The first [film], Jor-El is there even though he’s been dead for lord knows how long.”

Shannon goes on to explain that General Zod will apparently appear in ghostly form and that he was on set merely to provide a voiceover. Except, we’ve already seen him zipped up in a body bag in the official ‘Batman V Superman’ trailer.

“I went over and did some voice-over stuff because it’s like that ghost thing,” he said. “But I don’t know if I’m supposed to say that. I get very nervous.”

Will General Zod appear in ghostly form or is Shannon merely stalling after giving the game away?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but I wouldn’t say Doomsday is off the table just yet.
