BAFTA Launches Search for Breakthrough Brits

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has launched Breakthrough Brits, an initiative that will seek out and support the rising stars of the U.K. film, television and games industries.

Up to 20 newcomers will be selected by a BAFTA panel, and then will be mentored by leading industry figures.

The highlight of the program, which is staged in partnership with Burberry, will be an event at BAFTA on Oct. 21.

Amanda Berry, BAFTA chief exec, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for newcomers to showcase their work on a public stage, and to make the industry connections that are so important to developing their careers both nationally and internationally.”

The deadline for nominations is July 8. All candidate must have a credit on at least one production with a theatrical release, broadcast or publication in the U.K. between October 2012 and October 2013.
