'Bad Lieutenant' Director Abel Ferrera to Receive Locarno Fest Honor

CANNES -- Bad Lieutenant director Abel Ferrara will receive a lifetime achievement award – the Pardo d’onore — at the Locarno Film Festival this year.

Ferrara, whose gritty, violent body of work includes Ms. 45, King of New York and Mary, will receive the honor at a ceremony on Friday August 5 at Locarno’s Piazza Grande.

The director will also present an exclusive preview of extracts from his still-in-production 4:44 Last Day on Earth starring Willem Dafoe and Shanyn Leigh. On August 6, Ferrara will give a master class for Locarno attendees.

Previous Locarno lifetime achievement winners include Bernardo Bertolucci, Ken Loach, Jean-Luc Godard, Abbas Kiarostami and William Friedkin.
