‘Bachelorette’ Ratings Top Monday, ‘SYTYCD’ Rises, ‘The Island’ Ends Down

On a night dominated by unscripted shows the amorous revelations of The Bachelorette (2.0/7) ruled the roost. While the 2-hour ABC romance series only rose 5% among adults 18-49, it was the highest-rated and most-watched (6.92 million) show of Monday night. That audience was the best the series has done since its Season 11 premiere on May 18. All of which meant, even with lead-out freshman drama The Whispers (0.8/3) even with last week’s low, that ABC won the night in both the demo and overall viewership with a 1.6/5 rating and 5.78 million watching.

NBC was in second place on Monday in both the ratings and in viewership with American Ninja Warrior (1.8/6) just behind The Bachelorette. However, as the ABC show went up, the 2-hour NBC show went down 5% from its June 29 show. In early numbers that matches a season low for ANW. The finale of freshman The Island With Bear Grylls (1.0/3) suffered a similar fate. Matching its lowest result, the newbie ended its first season down 9% from last week.

On the Big 4, the biggest uptick of the night went to So You Think You Can Dance (1.0/4). Though third in the 8–10 PM unscripted battle, the Fox show saw an 11% jump from its June 29 show.

The Season 2 debut of Penn & Teller: Fool Us (0.5/2) on The CW was even with its July 30 premiere last year. Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.5/2) was up 25% from its last original on June 19 while Cedric’s Barber Battles (0.3/1) jumped 50% from its cut last week. CBS was all encores on Monday.
