‘Bachelorette’ Ratings Rise In Finale, ‘SYTYCD’ Hits Low, ‘Bear Grylls’ Up

We are starting to get that deep into summer that reality shows are starting to wrap up their current seasons. Last night’s The Bachelorette (2.4/9) Season 11 finale, of course, saw Kaitlyn Bristowe choose a man and that man get down on his knee in love. Whether or not it will last, at least based on past couplings on the show, is to be determined. What is already pretty solid is that last night’s 2-hour Bachelorette was up a strong 20% among adults 18-49 from the Season 10 ender on July 28 last year. The finale also rose 26% in the demo and 16% in viewers from its July 20 show to hit a season high. Even with Bachelorette finales typically a good return for the network, last night’s numbers are certainly a rose ABC loved to receive.

That rose was made sweeter by post-show The Bachelorette: After The Rose (2.4/8) moving on up 14% from last year in the key demo. All of which gave ABC its best summer Monday since August 12, 2013 in both the demo and viewership. Which delivered the night to the net with a 2.4/8 rating and 8.013 million viewers.

That finale competition was felt by So You Think You Can Dance (0.8/3) last night as it hit a season low. Facing off directly against the ABC love-in, the Fox series took a fall of 20% among the demo and 13% among viewers to 2.8 million from it July 29 show. The other 2-hour unscripted show of the night also took a double-digit dive with American Ninja Warrior (1.9/7) down 10% from last week. However, NBC saw a double-digit uptick too with Running Wild With Bear Grylls (1.3/4) rising 18% in the 18-49s from last week to climb to a Season 2 high. There were preemptions in San Francisco on NBC on Monday so there may be some adjustments to the net’s numbers later.

The CW’s two originals of the night saw Penn & Teller: Fool Us (0.7/3) and Cedric’s Barber Battle (0.3/1) both rise from last week’s series lows. The former was up 40% among the 18-49s from its July 20 airing and the latter rose 50%. With an audience of 2.31 million, Fool Us hit a series high in viewers as well as the best result The CW has had in the Monday 8 PM slot since December 7, 2009. Having said that, The CW was preempted in Sacramento due to baseball so last night’s ratings may shift in later numbers.

CBS was all encores on Monday.
