Asa Butterfield In Early Talks To Star In Spider-Man Reboot; Others Still In Mix

Marvel appears to be making good on recent talk about featuring a high school-aged Peter Parker in its upcoming reboot of Spider-Man. Sources say Ender’s Game‘s Asa Butterflield is one of a select group of actors being strongly considered for the gig. Other insiders estimate that about actors in total are up for the webslinging role, and that Butterfield currently stands as first among equals, though nothing is set in stone.

After Sony scuttled plans to spin off a series of “Spider-verse” films from the Amazing Spider-Man series centered on the wall-crawler’s rogues list, the studio entered into a rights-sharing partnership with Marvel Studios that will bring the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man first will appear in a supporting role in an upcoming film — widely believed to be Captain America: Civil War — before starring in a rebooted series of stand-alone films within the MCU.
