Animated Film ‘Song of the Sea’ Wins Top Prize at Irish Film and Television Awards

LONDON — Children’s animated feature “Song of the Sea” won the top film prize at the Irish Film and Television Academy Awards for Film and Drama, which took place at the Mansion House in Dublin on Sunday.

“Frank” picked up several awards, including director for Lenny Abrahamson, and supporting actor for Domhnall Gleeson. “Patrick’s Day” also picked up multiple prizes, including actor for Moe Dunford and script for Terry McMahon.

“Noble” took actress honors for Deirdre O’Kane and supporting actress for Sarah Greene, who also took the rising star award.

Best international film was “Boyhood,” the international actor award went to Eddie Redmayne for “The Theory of Everything,” and the international actress honor went to Julianne Moore for “Still Alice.”

In the TV section, “Love/Hate” was named top series, and also won script for Stuart Carolan. “Vikings” won top director for Ciaran Donnelly, and, perhaps surprisingly, make-up and hair.

Also acknowledged on the night was the success of Irish film “The Lobster,” which won the Prix du Jury at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend.

Guests who walked the red carpet included Andrew Scott, Sean Bean, Aidan Gillen, Stephen Rea and Kerry Fox. IFTA gave Jim Sheridan a Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Bean, for his career that included “My Left Foot,” “In America” and “In the Name of the Father.”
