‘America’s Got Talent’ Ratings Hit Debut Low, ‘Extreme Weight Loss’ Returns Down, ‘I Can Do That’ Opens Solid

There were a lot of championship level sports on cable last night in primetime and a lot of unscripted on the Big 4. After Tuesday’s 7-3 ice battle, the New York Rangers have forced the Tampa Bay Lightning to a NHL Eastern Conference Game 7 to decide who competes for the Stanley Cup. At least LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers know their next step. NBA Playoffs basketball on TNT on Tuesday saw the Cavs grab a spot in the Finals with a 118-88 win over the Atlanta Hawks and a 4 Game sweep of the Eastern Conference.

While NBC took the top spot among adults 18-49 with a 2.3/8 rating and was No. #1 in viewers with 9.45 million watching, there were no winners last night on the Season 10 debut of America’s Got Talent (2.6/9), which had its lowest ever season premiere among the key demo. There were, however, certainly a lot of contenders at the Los Angeles and NYC auditions with buff shirtless gymnasts, a hypnotist who seemed to cure Howie Mandel of his germ issues and everyone, including the judges, going crazy for the mind bending moves of the Siro-A dance group, among the hopefuls. Still, even with a big pile-on hug for Nick Cannon from Mandel, Mel B, Howard Stern and Heidi Klum attempting to set the tone, the 2-hour AGT took a 13% tumble on the sports heavy night from the Season 9 debut of May 27, 2014, which was its previous premiere low. With a possible adjustment in the cards in later numbers for a show that has dominated previous summers, AGT was followed last night by the premiere of I Can Do That (1.8/6) The new show was up 13% from the premiere of The Night Shift in the same slot last year and way way up to the tune of 80% from the July 22, 2014 opener of Food Fighters.

CBS was all encores last night while the only original on The CW was iZombie (0.6/2), which was even with last week after The Flash season finale. Those numbers may change however as The CW was preempted in NYC due to the NHL game.

Like NBC, ABC was all unscripted last night with 500 Questions (1.1/4) and the Season 5 premiere of Extreme Weight Loss (0.9/2). The freshman game show was even with Monday’s telecast while the competition series shed a hefty 31% among the demo from its Season 4 debut back on May 27 last year.

There were questions to be asked over on Fox last night too in the 8 PM slot with the return of Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? (0.8/3). While falling 38% from its first season debut on Fox back on September 20, 2008, the revived quiz show was up 14% from I Wanna Marry Harry on May 20 last year. With 5th Grader as a lead-in Hell’s Kitchen (1.1.3) was down 15% from last week.
