‘I Am Chris Farley’ Trailer: Reminder That We Miss Matt Foley But The Man Behind Him More

Virgil Films picked up U.S. rights to I Am Chris Farley last month and has set a July 31 platform theatrical release for New York and Los Angeles — though not before it bows July 27 in Chicago, where the comic wunderkind first broke on the scene with Second City Theater. That led to SNL and a meteoric rise before it all caught up to him; he died of a drug overdose in 1997 at age 33. Brent Hodge and Derik Murray (A Brony Tale, I Am Evel Knievel) directed the documentary, which features interviews with Farley’s co-stars and colleagues including Dan Aykroyd, Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Jon Lovitz, Lorne Michaels, Jay Mohr, Molly Shannon, Bob Odenkirk, Bob Saget, David Spade and Christina Applegate as well as his brother John. The docu also really hits you in the gut, watching the clips from SNL and Tommy Boy and realizing how good he was and that he’s been gone 18 years. Above is the first trailer which just dropped.

The Network Entertainment-produced pic will premiere August 10 on Spike TV, followed by a VOD release the next day.
