ABC Family Cancels ‘Bunheads’

ABC Family has decided to not renew “Bunheads” for a second season, after its first run failed to draw significant viewership for the Disney-owned cable net.

The ballerina dramedy from “Gilmore Girls’” Amy Sherman-Palladino ended its run in February on the cabler.

“Bunheads is a wonderful series that we are very proud to have aired,” ABC Family said in a statement. “The series had amazing storytelling, the most talented cast and a passionate and loyal fan base. Recognizing all of this, we took extra time to try and find ways to bring the series back for another season, but in the end it simply wasn’t possible. We wish the cast and crew the best in their future endeavors.”

The season one finale of “Bunheads” aired February 25 and drew just a million viewers in its timeslot. L+7 data notched the show up a bit after initial broadcasts, but the show failed to break the two million viewer mark in any of its live viewing.

ABC Family also recently cancelled bubble series “The Lying Game.”
