Ryan Reynolds Circling Sony’s ‘Rosie Project’

Ryan Reynolds is in early talks to star in TriStar’s “The Rosie Project,” sources confirmed to Variety.

Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber adapted Graeme Simsion’s book of the same name, which follows a socially inept genetics professor who comes up with a scientifically sound survey to find the perfect mate. His plans go awry when he meets Rosie Jarman, who in her whirlwind manner possesses all the qualities opposite to what he should be looking for.

Matt Tolmach and Michael Costigan are producing.

The project originally had Jennifer Lawrence and Richard Linklater involved, but after Lawrence boarded Darren Aronofsky’s latest drama, both fell off the project.

Reynolds is coming off his comic book hit “Deadpool,” which recently became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. Reynolds will next be seen in “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” and Sony’s sci-fi pic “Life.”

He is repped by WME.
