'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' International Trailer Reveals Jyn's Rebel Roots

Being a rebel (apparently) runs in the family for Jyn Erso. The new international trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (watch it above) reveals how the rebels learn about the construction of the Death Star. For heroine Jyn (Felicity Jones), the news hits close to home.

“The message was sent by your father,” intelligence officer Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) tells Jyn, after revolutionary leader Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) shares new intelligence that the Empire is planning a “major weapons test.” That’s the most we’ve heard so far about Jyn’s estranged father Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelson), who has yet to appear in any trailers. According to EW, Galen has “doomsday knowledge that is sought by both the Empire and the Rebellion.” Could he be a scientist who unknowingly created a weapon? A rebel who grew disenchanted with the Rebellion? Or an Imperial officer gone (wait for it) rogue? For now, he’s still a mystery. But if there’s one thing we know about the Star Wars universe, it’s that relationships between fathers and children tend to be tricky.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on Dec. 16.
