‘Rogue One,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Top Social Media Buzz

Disney/Lucasfilm’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” dominated social media buzz last week with more than 89,000 new conversations, according to media-measurement firm comScore and its PreAct service.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” starring Felicity Jones and Diego Luna, released released new Imax and Dolby posters on Nov. 14  and 16 and a video short on Nov. 15. The first spinoff of the new Star Wars franchise, which opens Dec. 16, has generated more than 2 million cumulative conversations on social media.

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” generated more than 60,000 new conversations last week, thanks to a new trailer that was revealed on Nov. 14. The trailer set a new record for most views within its first 24 hours with 127.6 million.

“Beauty and the Beast,” starring Emma Watson and directed by Bill Condon, will hit theaters on March 17, 2017.

Universal-Legendary’s “Kong: Skull Island” generated more than 52,000 new conversations last week as it released a full trailer on Nov. 17, followed by a teaser video and poster. The King Kong origins story stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson with a March 10 opening.

Disney’s animated comedy “Moana” generated more than 49,000 new conversations last week with the animated feature due to open Wednesday. “Moana,” which has a voice cast including Dwayne Johnson and newcomer Auli’i Cravalho, has a cumulative total of over 369,000 conversations.

Universal’s sequel “Fifty Shades Darker,” starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, generated nearly 28,000 new conversations last week as it aired a special TV spot during the Latin Grammys on Nov. 17. The sequel, which opens Feb. 10, has already generated more than half a million new conversations.

In September, the first “Fifty Shades Darker” trailer set a record for most views within its first 24 hours at 114 million. “Beauty and the Beast” topped that market last week.
