Update David McCallum, who played Russian agent Illya Kuryakin opposite Vaughn on The Man From U.N.C.L.E, released a statement about his friend and former costar. “I just heard the news and I’m utterly devastated. Robert and I worked together for many years and losing him is like losing a part of me. My deepest sympathies go out to Linda and the Vaughn family.”
Previous Robert Vaughn, who died of leukemia today at 83, is being remembered on social media by fans and colleagues in and out of Hollywood, particularly from the U.K. The star of The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Magnificent Seven and Britain’s Hustle and Coronation Street, was, in the words of Shaun of the Dead creator Edgar Wright, “the coolest guy on TV.”
RIP Robert Vaughn. An urbane and polished actor who graced a number of my childhood favorites. Thank you for the inspiration to class, sir.

RIP Napoleon Solo! The great Robert Vaughn was the coolest guy on TV when I was a kid. Superb in Bullitt, The Magnificent Seven & many more. pic.twitter.com/h7AzfN2pt0

Oh no. Robert Vaughn, such a fine actor, one of the best Columbo villains (no higher praise than that) & an utterly charming man, has died.

Aw. RIP Robert Vaughn. I got to work with him on Hustle 5 years ago. He did his own slow mo stunts that day while in his late 70s. pic.twitter.com/glFGcOhQNk
