By Rebecca Ford

Robert Redford and Jane Fonda are in talks to to star in Our Souls at Night, which Netflix may be coming on to back.

The film is an adaptation of Kent Haruf’s novel, which hit shelves in May. It centers on two older neighbors who have both lost their spouses and are alone in their big houses. They build a connection and reminisce about their lives.

Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who wrote 500 Days or Summer, The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns, will write the script.

No deals are done yet, but sources say Netflix will likely pick up the project. The company’s first big feature film, Beasts of No Nation, is playing at the Toronto Film Festival.

Fonda and Redford both have films playing at TIFF. Redford’s Dan Rather film Truth premiered on Saturday and Fonda has a memorable role in Youth, which first premiered in Cannes and is now showing at TIFF.

Fonda is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment; Redford by WME and Jackoway Tyerman.

Neustadter and Weber are repped by CAA, Kaplan/Perrone and MARKS Law Group.
