Robert Downey Jr. Beats a Captain America Piñata, Has Awkward Fan Encounter on 'Live'

Robert Downey Jr. stopped by Live With Kelly and Michael to talk about his newest movie, Captain America: Civil War.

“It’s actually a pretty smart, cool movie,” Downey said.

His preview of the film was good enough for Live, because the folks there immediately lowered a Captain America piñata — in honor of Cinco de Mayo — and handed Downey a big ol’ stick.

We like to think that right before Downey wound up and hammered that piñata, he was thinking of the unnecessarily aggressive audience members who turned his entrance into a bit of a nightmare. First, there was the girl who tried to hug him and got pushed aside. Then there was the woman who stood in front of him and got slapped out of the way. And finally there was the man with that handshake/shoulder grab combo that sent shivers down everyone’s spine, especially Downey’s.

Thankfully, the piñata was constructed perfectly — not too hard, not too soft. One solid whack apiece from Downey, Kelly Ripa, and Michael Strahan and Captain America was defeated!
