'Rage' Trailer: You Can't Assuage The Rage Of Cage

Behold the “Rage" of Nicolas Cage, for it is calculated and explosive.

In this new trailer for the Oscar-winner’s latest theatrical offering, Cage plays reformed criminal Paul Maguire, who is forced to return to the roots of his nefarious former life of crime when rival thugs kidnap his daughter Caitlin (Aubrey Peeples, recently announced as the star of the live-action “Jem” movie).

It is not entirely clear what Maguire’s enemies want from him via the kidnapping, but it is clear from the explosions, car chases, gun and fistfights that follow that this is a revenge thriller made to capitalize on Cage’s action movie skills as well as the success of Liam Neeson’s “Taken” franchise.

"Think about your past," Detective St. John (played by "Lethal Weapon" star Danny Glover) pleads to Maguire, hoping to keep him out of trouble by advising him against "falling back on any of your old habits." But of course he can’t do that. He brings in pals from the bad old days to face off against the Russian mob. Interestingly enough, the last shot of the trailer is of a Nicolas Cage not enraged, but rather in anguish, bending over something — more likely someone — he wasn’t able to save.

Also starring Rachel Nichols (“G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra”) and Peter Stormare (“Fargo”), “Rage" will be available on demand on June 10 and in select theaters on July 11.
