Pug Life: Taron Egerton Adopts Furry Sidekick in Exclusive 'Kingsman' Clip

Hey, Men in Black, we’ll see your alien pug and raise you… a puppy pug. The canine kingdom’s most wrinkly faced little representative gets another featured role in a splashy Hollywood action movie when Kingsman: The Secret Service opens in U.S. theaters next week — and you can watch the doggie’s screen intro in the exclusive clip above.

Kingsman stars newcomer Taron Egerton as a wayward London teen recruited into, well, a secret service by a debonair veteran agent (Colin Firth) just as a mega-rich madman (Samuel L. Jackson) plots to rid the Earth of most of its population. Before Egerton’s Eggsy earns a place in the service, however, he must compete against an outfit of other young aspiring crimefighters; puppy-guarding is one of several tasks they’re confronted with (and it’s by far the least life-threating and most adorable of them all; more daunting tasks include sky-diving and waking up in a flooding dorm room).

There were no puppies involved, but Egerton also had to battle to earn the highly coveted lead role opposite Firth, Jackson, and other greats like Michael Caine and Mark Strong. The young actor went through a five-week audition process that included stunt auditions (“What they do is make sure you look comfortable with guns and that you can run around and look like you could play the part, do a few dive roles,” he explained) and a meeting at director Matthew Vaughn’s house to read through the script. Then once Egerton landed the part, the real fun began with three months of physical training. You can read more about Egerton in our in-depth profile on the breakout star next week on Yahoo Movies.

Kingsman opens wide Feb. 13.
