8 Product Placements Spotted in 'Pitch Perfect 2'

There’s a small group of companies among the chorus of fans singing the praises of Pitch Perfect 2. The aca-sequel’s huge $70-million opening weekend means a whole lot of moviegoers were watching the Barden Bellas vie for world domination, perform in an epic cover-song battle, and, yeah, hawk CoverGirl and other brands on the big screen. Here are eight product placements seen in Pitch Perfect 2:

1. Beats headphones
Fresh off their cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Dr. Dre-spawned headphones are back on the screen in Pitch Perfect 2. (PP2 performer Ester Dean is one of several people wearing them in the movie’s official music video.)

2. CoverGirl
In case you couldn’t quite tell that all the cosmetics in the dressing room at the world a cappella competition came from CoverGirl, there was a branded makeup bag with extremely large lettering next to Beca (Anna Kendrick) to hammer the product placement home.

3. Dave & Buster’s
The popular restaurant-gaming chain appears in PP2 in the form of a $42,000 gift card — the big prize during an underground cover-songs battle hosted by a nerdy rich guy, played by David Cross.

4. Pantene
The hair-product brand wasn’t a sponsor for PP2 (wink-wink), but rather for the a cappella competition in which its logo appeared.

5. Volkswagen
There is not a more fitting place for the Bellas to check out their German competitors than at an event for the German automaker. At one point an extra writhes in ecstasy over the hood of a red Beetle — not terribly subtle.

6. VOSS
If the product-y car show isn’t enough for you, a mountain of VOSS bottles appear in that same sequence. The bottled-water brand is also a sponsor at the big sing-off in Copenhagen.

7. Hewlett Packard
Keegan-Michael Key’s superstar music producer doesn’t mix his tunes on a Mac. No, it’s HP or go home for this guy.

8. iPhone
Still, Apple managed to make it into the movie’s mix as Beca (Kendrick) is spotted using an iPhone.
