President Snow Threatens the Districts in the New 'Mockingjay' Teaser

Are you standing with Panem, or are you siding with that troublemaker Katniss Everdeen? In this teaser for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part I, the sinister President Snow (Donald Sutherland) urges loyalty from the citizens of his future-dystopian nation. Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is nowhere in sight, but one of her fellow rebels does make a surprise appearance.

Framed as a public service announcement on Capitol TV, the ad features Snow on a white throne, wearing his signature white rose on the lapel of his fur coat. The fascist President boasts of Panem’s prosperity, praising his people for their hard work and obedience. Then he makes a chillingly calm promise. “If you resist the system, you will starve yourself. If you fight against it, it is you who will bleed,” Sutherland intones. “I know you will stand with me, with us, with all of us, together, as one.”

The trailer is a continuation of Mockingjay — Part 1’s clever ad campaign, which presents itself as propaganda from Panem’s villainous government. Last week, Lionsgate unveiled a series of posters celebrating “district heroes,” obedient workers in each region — including a six-year-old coal miner from Katniss and Peeta’s District 12. The posters and President Snow’s address can be viewed at thecapitol.pn, the official “ministry of information” website for the Capitol.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 hits theaters on Nov. 21, with the second part coming next year.
