Pixar’s Inside Out Sweeps Up At Annie Awards

If you can look past ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and ‘Jurassic World’ for a moment, you’ll perhaps be aware of the superb offering of Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’.

Having taken an impressive wedge at the worldwide box office (around $857 million) and huge critical praise, the animated film has now swept up at the Annie Awards.

The Disney Pixar hit won 10 awards, including Best Feature and Best Director for Pete Docter.

It also won accolades for writing, voice acting and editing. Pixar can add these to the numerous awards it’s won already, including a Golden Globe, and is up for a BAFTA next week and a couple of Oscars (Animated Feature and Writing) in a few weeks time.

But should it have been nominated in the Best Picture category at this year’s Oscars? Many were indeed fighting its corner and disappointed when it failed to make the shortlist. It’s arguably good enough to compete amongst the likes of ‘Spotlight’ and ‘The Revenant’, that’s for sure.

It seems a safe bet that it’ll nab the Best Animation Oscar because, let’s be honest, it’s the stand out movie in the list that does include strong competition from ‘Anomalisa’ and ‘When Marnie Was There’.

‘Inside Out’ is about an 11-year-old girl named Riley. Against her wishes, she’s forced to move across the country when her dad gets a new job and struggles to settle into her life there. Combine that with the onset of teenage angst and puberty, we get a glimpse into her mind where her thoughts and feelings materialise into living, breathing (and hugely likeable) characters.

Elsewhere, Pixar’s other 2015 release ‘The Good Dinosaur’ did scoop the Animated Effects award because, frankly, it did look stunning on the big screen.
