In the film, Pine's character, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Foster, talks about watching a "CHiPs" (1977-1983) marathon on TV. In real life, Pine's parents, Robert Pine and Gwynne Gilford, both starred on the celebrated cop show. The couple portrayed onscreen couple Sgt. Joseph Getraer and his wife, Betty. On the show, they actually had a son named Chris. In fact, Chris Pine's first role was on "CHiPs", when Gilford appeared pregnant with Chris (somehow he remains uncredited). "CHiPs" was such a part of the family that even Pine's sister, Katherine, appeared in the TV movie "CHiPs '99" (1998).
