Peyton Reed to Direct 'Ant-Man'

By Alex Stedman

Peyton Reed is set to direct Ant-Man, with Adam McKay contributing to the script, Marvel announced Saturday on their official website.

The project has been at the center of directing rumors in recent weeks. In May, Edgar Wright dropped out of directing, which was followed by rumors that McKay would step in to helm. However, though those rumors were shot down, McKay is involved with the script.

Despite being attached to the film as a screenwriter since 2006, Wright and Marvel parted ways “due to differences  in their vision of the film,” they said in a joint statement.

Reed most recently directed 2008′s Yes Man, which starred Jim Carey and grossed $223.2 million worldwide. He also helmed other comedies Bring It On, Down With Love and The Break-Up. He is repped by WME and Sloane, Offer.

Reed also developed another Marvel property: Fantastic Four. Tim Story eventually took over the property for Fox.

McKay is best known for directing Anchorman and its sequel, where we worked with Rudd. The WME-repped director is also a producing partner of Will Ferrell’s and helmed The Other Guys and Step Brothers.

Paul Rudd stars as the titular Marvel superhero, alongside Michael Douglas, who will play Dr. Hank Pym, and Evangeline Lilly. Corey Stoll, Michael Pena and Patrick Wilson round out the cast.

It’s set to hit theaters on July 17, 2015.
