Channing Tatum has joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, according to an official announcement from the Weinstein Company. What could make Quentin Tarantino dance the red carpet? Celebrating 20 years since the Cannes premiere of his breakthrough movie, Pulp Fiction. Tarantino, along with two of Pulp’s stars, Uma Thurman and John Travolta, were on hand for a special Cannes event and beach screening of the film, prompting Tarantino to do a shimmy straight out of Jack Rabbit Slim’s. At a press conference earlier in the day, Tarantino called the Palme d’Or he received for Pulp Fiction his greatest achievement.
“It’s rare to see a filmmaker who doesn’t have a movie here in Cannes do a press conference,” said Cannes Film Festival chief Thierry Frémaux as he introduced Quentin Tarantino to journalists this afternoon. But Cannes loves Tarantino and the feeling is clearly mutual. His Pulp Fiction Palme d’Or is “my single, absolutely, positively greatest achievement,” the director said. Besides, even if he doesn’t have a new movie here, Pulp Fiction is screening tonight in celebration of the 20th anniversary of winning that Palme.
