Watch ‘Hellboy’ Director Guillermo Del Toro Talk About a “Horrible Murder” in a Haunted Hotel The beloved Mexican geek master is a member of the London-based paranormal-research organization called The Ghost Club. One of the perks of membership is getting info on haunted hotel rooms, a service of which the Hellboy and Pacific Rim director often takes advantage. He doesn’t always have ghostly encounters, but as he told Yahoo Movies at last summer’s Comic Con, he has experienced some truly terrifying moments. Several years ago, while Del Toro was scouting locations for The Hobbit (he was originally slated to direct the movie), he booked a room in the allegedly haunted Waitomo Caves Hotel in Otorhonga, New Zealand — and the accommodations more than delivered on its promise of otherworldly frights.
In a special YouTube announcement video, director Guillermo Del Toro announced that there will be an animated series set in the world of “Pacific Rim” that will start soon, and that the comic book series set in that world will also continue to be published. More importantly, Del Toro has now set April 7, 2017 as the date for the release of the sequel to the film, which Universal will distribute in the U.S. "Pacific Rim" is an important overall property for Legendary.
