Paying Tribute to 'Citizen Kane,' With Help From Homer Simpson and Mr. Burns

Citizen Kane, the 1941 Orson Welles epic that still consistently lands atop lists of the best, most influential films ever made, celebrated its 75th anniversary of release on May 1. To mark the occasion, the YouTube channel Moon Film posted a look at the ways another trailblazer, The Simpsons, has paid homage to the film over the years. The two-minute clip places images from Kane side-by-side with Simpsons scenes that are meticulously drawn mirrors of Welles’s cinematic masterpiece.

Most of the scenes used in the video come from the brilliant season 5 Kane tribute, “Rosebud,” which explores Mr. Burns’s relationship with his childhood teddy bear, Bobo, in a way that duplicates the movie’s narrative arc. But there are a couple of shots from other episodes, too, including another classic based loosely on a great work of art, Season 4’s “A Streetcar Named Marge.” Watch and enjoy.
