Paula Patton's Green Skin in 'Warcraft' Wasn't a Makeup Job

Yahoo Movies had the chance to sit down with the cast of Warcraft, including the lovely Paula Patton. Patton plays Garona, a half-human, half-orc character. Among her most noticeable features in the movie is her green skin. Traditionally, actors who take on parts like Garona have to go through intensive makeup sessions before each day of shooting.

However, Patton told us that while the filmmakers intended to have her go through makeup, they changed their minds. “You know, every year there’s new technology and so there was a time that it was going to be painted, and they said, ‘No, actually, it will be cooler to do it in post,” she said.

Patton said she was told, “‘We’ll actually be able to see your skin breathe, the pores, and if you’re cold, then hair stands on end, or if you’re hot and flushed and have been running, we can get some rosy color in your cheeks and see sweat.’”

Regardless of the reason why, Patton was clearly happy that she avoided being painted up every day. “It just looked more realistic to not do it,” she shared. “And I was also like, ‘Thank you.’ Because can you imagine? Because, can I, like, sit down on this couch, I wonder? If you rub up against something, [will I get green on it]?”

One has to wonder if this will catch on with other actors in movies. The people who have to undergo intensive makeup procedures sure don’t seem to like it. Back in July 2015, Jennifer Lawrence cast doubt on continuing as Mystique in the X-Men franchise. “Now I’m almost 25 and I’m like, ‘I can’t even pronounce this and that’s going in my nose? I’m breathing that?’”

Patton’s fellow green warrior, Zoe Saldana, aka Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, isn’t a fan of the process either. She told Live With Kelly and Michael back in 2014, “My pores were green, the pillow was green, my dog was green, the apartment that we were renting was green.I was like ‘Oh my God! … Will this ever stop?’”
