Paula Deen has at least one company that's still standing behind her.
Beleaguered celebrity cook Paula Deen, who's had business partners defect from her en masse since news broke last month that she had used the N word, will still be the subject of a biographical comic book.
Bluewater Productions -- the company that's produced comic books about the lives of celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Ellen DeGeneres -- said
Wednesday that it will go forward with its Paula Deen comic, which is slated for publication in October.
"We do not condone her use of racial insensitivities, and think that intolerance has no place in a just society," Bluewater president Darren G. Davis said. "But despite her recent failings, we also strongly believe she still has a powerful story to tell; one that fits the female empowerment model of our books."
The book will be part of Bluewater's "Female Force" series, which includes installments on Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling and other high-profile women.
Deen's comic "does not look to reward or disparage Deen, but [rather] frame her story as an entrepreneur who transformed a home-based catering service into a culinary empire," Bluewater said. However, Davis said, the controversy over her use of a racial slur will be included in the final draft of the comic book.
"Paula Deen is still an inspirational woman who has suffered much adversity in her life and overcome many obstacles," said Michael Troy, who's writing the Deen comic. "Her story is fascinating and it's easy to see why Bluewater would consider her for their Female Force line of Biography comic books that on powerful women."
Perhaps, with the right treatment, the comic can help Deen turn the page on her current woes and begin the next chapter of her life.
