Paul Rudd Sweats the Small Stuff in New 'Ant-Man' TV Spot

After all that heavy fate-of-the-universe stuff in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, it’s time for Ant-Man to remind fans of Marvel’s lighter side. Here’s the extended TV spot for Ant-Man (above), which premiered on last night’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finale.

While most of this footage has already been seen in the Ant-Man theatrical trailers, the joke-packed TV spot boils the story down to its goofy essence: Ex-con Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is recruited by Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) for one last heist, which Lang must accomplish by shrinking to the size of an ant. The super-powered Ant-Man suit gives mini-Lang hugely disproportionate strength (“like a bullet”), but he still needs help with the basics — hence the punching tutorial from Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly). To complicate matters, Hank Pym’s former protégé Darren Cross (Corey Stoll) has developed his own insect-powered suit, and decides to take on Ant-Man as the villain Yellowjacket. But are either of them strong enough to defeat Thomas the Tank Engine? More importantly: Will Ant-Man capture that same spirit of B-list superhero fun that made last year’s Guardians of the Galaxy a hit? Either way, this is just the beginning for Ant-Man, who is set to appear in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War.

Ant-Man opens in theaters on July 17.
