Paramount Closes Domestic Deal For George Clooney’s ‘Suburbicon’- Berlin

Paramount is believed to be closing a domestic deal for George Clooney’s Suburbicon, in the $10 million range, sources have confirmed to Deadline. The deal was being worked out Friday night. CAA is handling the domestic sale. Bloom is selling international rights. Black Bear Pictures is fully financing. Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Josh Brolin are attached. Joel and Ethan Coen wrote the script, a dark domestic dramedy. Joel Silver produces for Silver Pictures alongside Smokehouse’s Clooney and Grant Heslov and Teddy Schwarzman for Black Bear Pictures.

Clooney sat down with buyers in Berlin yesterday to tub-thump the project after opening the festival with Hail, Caesar! Deals are still being worked out for the international roll-out of the film. Paramount are believed to be open to carving out up to a couple of other territories but they will not be the only or main distributor of the film internationally.

PARAMOUNT PICTURES ACQUIRES GEORGE CLOONEY’S “SUBURBICON” FOR THE U.S.

HOLLYWOOD, CA (February 13, 2016) – Paramount Pictures has acquired U.S. distribution to the George Clooney-directed film “SUBURBICON.” The announcement was made out of the Berlin film Festival.

Starring Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, Josh Brolin and Oscar Isaac, “SUBURBICON” is written by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen.

The film is produced by Joel Silver on behalf of Silver Pictures, Clooney and Grant Heslov on behalf of Smokehouse Pictures, and Teddy Schwarzman on behalf of Black Bear Pictures, who will finance the project.

Brad Grey, Paramount Pictures Chairman & CEO, said: “George has assembled a stellar project, starting with Joel and Ethan’s great script, a wildly talented cast lead by Matt and Julianne, and an extraordinary producing team with George, Grant, Joel and Teddy. The film is expected to begin shooting this October in Los Angeles.

CAA handled the U.S. sale, with Bloom handling international sales at the EFM. Paramount’s Eben Davidson and attorney David Miercort represented the studio in the deal.
