"Argo" is a movie based on a true story about a fake movie based on a real script with a new title. Simple, right? In 1979, CIA officer Tony Mendez hatched a plan to save American hostages from Iran using a fake movie. The script they selected was "Lord of Light," based on a novel by Roger Zelazny. Makeup artist John Chambers (played by John Goodman) renamed the project "Argo," which led to a vulgar but great knock-knock joke in the film. "Argo" references the mythical boat used by Jason and the Argonauts in their quest for the Golden Fleece.
