After the gloom of Batman v Superman, after the doom of Suicide Squad, the lighter side of DC Comics is on display at New York Comic Con, especially when it comes to area carved out by Lego. The brick-happy booth is loaded with new models from the kid-friendly DC Super Hero Girls and The Lego Batman Movie franchises. And towering above them all is Supergirl.
Yahoo Movies got an exclusive sneak peek at the life-sized statue standing at 5-feet, 5-inches, weighing 70 pounds and comprising 14,210 bricks. The Kryptonian, shown in her DC Super Hero Girls guise, required 130 hours for Lego’s Master Builders to assemble.
Also on display is a rotating lenticular triptych featuring Wonder Woman, Batgirl, and Bumblebee. The shapeshifting model consists of 82,944 bricks — not that we’re counting.
Meanwhile, beginning in November, Lego is rolling out several new playsets pegged to DC characters, led by Lego Batman Movie scenarios which seem to divulge plot points from the upcoming movie. So if you wish to avoid spoilers ahead of the Feb. 10 release, avert your eyes.
There will also be several DC Super Hero Girl toys arriving in two waves, with the holiday-timed first series hitting Nov. 27 and then three additional sets coming Jan. 1.
New York Comic Con runs Thursday through Sunday at Manhattan’s Javits Center.
