Noel Gallagher Explains What Made His Songs Extraordinary in Clip From 'Oasis: Supersonic' (Exclusive)

Noel Gallagher has plenty of gifts. A gift for songwriting, a gift for guitar-playing… and a gift for colorful expletive-laden commentary. Just see the Oasis mastermind’s explanation for what made the many hit singles on the band’s seminal 1995 album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? so popular.

“The songs on that record, they’re extraordinary songs,” Gallagher says in a clip (watch above) from the new music doc Oasis: Supersonic. “And they’re not extraordinary songs because of anything that I did. I only wrote them, and we only played them. It’s the millions of people since who f–king sing them back to you to this day that have made them extraordinary.”

Morning Glory? featured four bona fide hits in “Wonderwall,” “Some Might Say,” “Champagne Supernova,” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger.”

Directed by Matt Whitecross (The Road to Guantanamo), Oasis: Supersonic chronicles the rise and fall of the group fronted by fraternal rock duo Liam and Noel Gallagher, who shot to fame in the mid-’90s and suffered an ugly breakup in 2009. The film is executive produced by Asif Kapadia, who knows a thing or two about capturing the stories of extremely talented yet self-destructive British musicians: He directed last year’s Oscar-winning documentary Amy.

Oasis: Supersonic is now playing in select theaters and available on iTunes and video on demand.
