Nicolas Cage Exports His Brand of Crazy in New Trailer for 'Outcast'

Besides delivering on the world’s collective wish of watching Ghost Rider team up with Darth Vader, the medieval action movie Outcast at last allows Nicolas Cage to bring his brand of crazy to China.

In the movie’s just-released trailer, it appears that the actor didn’t disappoint his host nation in that regard. Continuing to add to his revolving carousel of hairpieces and accents, Cage adopts KISS-length tresses and a vaguely British affectation as the White Ghost, a former Crusader-turned-outlaw living in the wilds of 12th-century China. The lone warrior’s isolation comes to an end when he reluctantly allies himself with one of his former soldiers (Hayden Christensen) to return a pair of on-the-run royal siblings to their rightful place on the Emperor’s throne, currently occupied by their villainous brother.

Cage’s paycheck was written by investors from China, Canada and France, who teamed up in an impressive display of international unity to make Outcast a reality. The movie also marks the directorial debut of Nick Powell, a stunt coordinator with some experience bringing Hollywood action stars to Asia, having previously worked on Tom Cruise’s 2003’s The Last Samurai. This two-minute trailer is already more entertaining than that entire 154-minute slog, although we’ve been burned in the past by Cage vehicles that don’t deliver on the promise of their demented teasers — Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and Season of the Witch to name just a few.  Find out on February 27, whether Cage came to play, or if he’s just phoning his role in long distance.
