TORONTO – Tricon Films & Television and PPI Releasing are to launch the sci-fi procedural drama Sanctuary in broadcast syndication.
Sanctuary, which aired on Syfy for four years, is to air in over 78 percent of the U.S. market, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and stations from the ABC Owned, Belo, Cox, Hearst, Fox, LIN, Meredith, Hubbard, Journal, Pappas, Post-Newsweek, Titan and Wiegel groups.
Sony Pictures Television will represent the series to advertisers.
The show stars Amanda Tapping (Stargate) as Dr. Helen Magnus, the daring leader of a team of investigators who track down, study and protect strange creatures that secretly populate the world.
The station groups will play Sanctuary in procedural drama blocks or stand-alone late night plays.
Sanctuary began in early 2007 as an Internet-only offering that pulled in nearly 4 million viewers and then secured a successful series launch on Syfy in October 2008.
“This is an extremely well-crafted show, and the market has responded to its high quality and utility,” said PPI Releasing’s Ritch Colbert.
