Scott Steindorff and his Scott Pictures banner have come aboard to produce and finance Mobius, Lynne Ramsay’s science fiction-oriented project inspired by Moby Dick.
Ramsay and her We Need to Talk About Kevin co-writer Rory Kinnear are writing the script, which takes its cues from Herman Melville’s classic about a sea captain seeking revenge on a whale that destroyed his previous boat.
In Mobius, described as psychological action thriller set in deep space, a captain consumed by revenge takes his crew on a death mission fueled by his own ego and will to control an enigmatic alien.
Mobius will be produced and financed by Scott Pictures, with Ramsay producing alongside Steindorff, Peter Fruchtman, Dylan Russell and Scott LaStaiti of Scott Pictures.
Steindorff (The Lincoln Lawyer) founded Scott Pictures, a film production and finance company, earlier this year as an offshoot of his Stone Village Productions banner.
The deal marks the second project Ramsay is collaborating with Steindorff, after the high-profile Western Jane Got a Gun. Natalie Portman and Michael Fassbender are toplining the Jane project, which is eyeing a late-January start.
Scott Pictures is also prepping the action movie Land of Living with director Olivier Megaton.
Ramsay came to the fore with 2011’s We Need to Talk About Kevin, directing and co-writing the thriller that starred Tilda Swinton. The movie garnered numerous award nominations incuding several BAFTA Awards and the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
She is repped by WME and Peikoff Mahan.
