NBC's "America's Got Talent" returned for another season Tuesday night to score the night's top numbers but still experienced a dip that yielded a series low for its premieres. Meanwhile, in other bad news for singing competitions, "The Voice" saw a new low for its Tuesday results shows, according to preliminary numbers.
As for the networks' new offerings, ABC's "Extreme Weight Loss" and CBS's "Brooklyn DA" dropped off from their debuts last week.
Despite the mixed showing for the "America's Got Talent" premiere -- and the dip for "The Voice" -- NBC came in first in the advertiser-sought 18-49 demographic with a 3.1 rating/10 share and in total viewers with 10.9 million.
"The Voice" at 8 p.m. posted a 3.0/11 -- down 6 percent from last week and a new low for Tuesday results shows -- and had 10.6 million total viewers "Talent" the following hour -- which debuted its revamped judges' panel that includes Hiedi Klum and Mel B. -- had a 3.1/9 and 11.1 million total viewers, making it the top-rated and most-watched program of the night.
That was the good news for the show. On the other side of the coin, the "AGT" premiere was down 16 percent in the demo from last May's premiere, and a series low for season premieres.
Fox drew second place in ratings and third in total viewers with a 1.6/5 and 4.4 million. The network's primetime slate consisted of "So You Think You Can Dance," which slid 16 percent in the demo to a 1.6/5 and had 4.4 million total viewers.
Univision was third in ratings and fifth in total viewers with a 1.3/4 and 3.4 million.
CBS tied ABC for fourth in ratings with a 0.9/3 and took second place outright in total viewers with 6.8 million. The network aired repeats aside from "Brooklyn DA" at 10, which slid 20 percent from last week's debut to a 0.8.2 and had 4.1 million total viewers.
ABC, in fourth place in total viewers with 4 million, aired "Extreme Weight Loss" at 8, which was down 17 percent from last week's premiere to a 1.0/3 and took 3.8 million total viewers. A "Body of Proof" repeat followed at 10.
