UPDATE: Friends and family of talent manager Gerry Harrington have sent me a short release on his passing. A private memorial will be held, primarily for family and close friends, and they’ve asked any donations to be made to Music Cares at http://www.grammy.org/musicares/donate. Here is the obit:
Talent Manager Gerald C. Harrington, Jr. Dies
A native of Bronxville, New York, he is survived by his daughters, Veronica and Daphne, his mother Martha, and his brother Brian. Harrington graduated from Georgetown University (1984) and began his career in the William Morris mailroom in New York City. He moved to Los Angeles and started his career as a talent agent at APA, where he represented clients such as Tom Waits, Joe Strummer, and Crispin Glover in the music and film industry. He then joined Industry Entertainment as a personal manager, representing Nicolas Cage, Christopher Lambert, amongst many others before making his mark at Brillstein Grey Entertainment. There he would guide the careers of artists such as Cage, Gary Sinise, Sylvester Stallone, Rod Lurie, Rosanna Arquette, and many others. Harrington was a colorful executive known in the business for his razor sharp wit, keen instincts, and unbridled passion for his clients. He left Brillstein Grey to pursue his love for music and achieved success in that industry as well, managing Big Audio Dynamite and launching their recent successful European tour.
EARLIER, Tuesday, February 12, 12:58 pm EST: Here is a sad story. I’ve confirmed that Gerry Harrington passed away yesterday, but at this point I don’t know much more than that. Harrington was a well-liked deal maker I knew when he was at Brillstein/Grey managing clients including Nicolas Cage, Gary Sinise and director Rod Lurie, among others. He started as an agent and will at Brillstein/Grey was half of a power couple after marrying Angela Janklow, the daughter of lit agent Mort Janklow and great grand daughter of mogul Harry Warner. They had two children together before divorcing. Harrington left Brillstein in 2005 and more recently has been working in the music business. I’ll tell you more when I learn it.
